Iceland here we come......

In just a few days, my youngest son Nolan and I will be heading to Iceland for an 8-day spring photography adventure through some of the country’s most spectacular landscapes. Spring can be an incredible time to photograph Iceland — longer daylight hours, snow still lingering on the mountains, powerful waterfalls, and constantly changing weather that creates dramatic light almost everywhere you look.

Our trip begins at Keflavík International Airport, where we’ll pick up our vehicle and begin the drive along the southern coast toward Vík í Mýrdal. We’ll spend three days exploring and photographing many of the iconic locations in southern Iceland, including Saljalansfoss, Gljufrabui, Skogafoss, and Kvernafoss.  We will also make a short trip east to Jokulsarlon Lagoon, Fjaorarglijufur Canyon, Diamond Beach and Dyrholaey (to shoot photos of puffins) that make this region one of the most photographed places in the world. While in the south, we will also do some zip lining, and take a hike in the Katla Ice caves.

From there, we’ll begin the drive westward, first traveling the famous Golden Circle before continuing on to Borgarnes. Western Iceland offers a completely different feel, with dramatic Kirkjufellsfoss, the Budakirkja church and grundarfoss, along with

quieter landscapes that are perfect for photography. We’ll spend another three days exploring the area and chasing whatever light and weather Iceland decides to give us.

Our final stop will be Reykjavík, where we’ll photograph some of the city’s landmarks and colorful streets while also slowing things down a bit for sightseeing, shopping, and enjoying the local culture before heading home.

Trips like this are always about more than photography. They’re about the experience, the adventure, and the memories made along the way. I’m especially looking forward to sharing this journey with Nolan and experiencing Iceland together through our cameras and our time on the road. We'll be posting photos and our story when we get back at the end of May. Keep your eyes open. Brian
